150th Birth Day Celeberation of Mahatma Gandhi at KVK, Wyra on 02-10-2019

As part of 150th Birthday celebration of Mahatma Gandhi, KVK, Wyra organised a meeting attended by Smt.M.Vijayanirmala, Project Directorm, ATMA, Khammam, Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, Program Coordinator, scientists, Dr. Jessie Suneetha W and Dr. K. Ravi Kumar along with other staff, 20 students and 42 farmers. The program started with offering floral tributes to the Father of the Nation by all. Smt.M.Vijayanirmala, Project Director, ATMA, Khammam spoke onpromotion of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) for the farmers to get good price for their produce which would improve the standard of living of farmers there by making the dream of Gandhiji for better standards of living. Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar spoke on the judicious use of fertilizers based on Soil Health Card (SHC) recommendationsas excess amount of fertilisers used are contaminating out water bodies leading to a variety of environmental problems and promotion of beekeeping as bees are most important organism for the ecological balance, do not carry any sort of microorganisms and help in pollination of many food crops. The cultivation of oilseeds with better yield to be promoted among farmers for increased production. Dr. K. Ravi Kumar spoke on water conservation technologies available and need for production of quality seed to improve the yield. Dr. Jessie Suneetha W spoke on nutritional quality of oilseeds and the need to incorporate them in diets for nutritional security. The drought resilient and minimal water consuming nutri-cereals help in combating hidden hunger which is a major concern in today’s world. The students participated in elocution on methods to replace / manage plastic for a better tomorrow. Twenty farmers were given Soil Health Cards. Lastly all the participants actively cleaned the surrounding areas of KVK, Wyra.
