KVK, Palem organized Training programme on Bio-intensive pest management in field crops on 23-11-2020

KVK, Palem organized training programme on Bio-intensive pest management in field crops on 23.11.2020. Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem emphasized on the indiscriminate usage of harmful chemical pesticides for the management of pests leads to array of the problems like development of resistance, resurgence and residues on field & horticultural crops. Instructed farmer’s to usage of the chemicals should be done when the pest crosses above the ETL. Mr. M. Rajashekhar, (SMS-Plant protection) has explained usage of bio-pesticides like Trichoderma viride for seed & soil treatment to reduce the seed & soil borne diseases in Groundnut and other crops. Installation of pheromone traps and erecting of bird perches @ 10/acre to monitor and mass trapping of borer pests. Installation of yellow & blue sticky traps @ 20/acre to monitor and management of sucking pests. Usage of neem based formulations like Neem Seed Kernal Extract (NSKE) & Azadiractin 1500, 3000ppm @ 1 liter will not only act as pest deterrents but also reduce the egg laying & hatching of pests. Usage of the harmful chemicals should be need based not calendar based and growing of flower plants as a border rows will allow the conservation & multiplication of natural predators & parasitoids which will feed on the pests reduce the pest load. In this programme agriculture department officials, 25 farmers and farm women were participated.
