PJTSAU develops 11 Crop varieties

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has developed 11 new varieties in different crops. These new varieties include five in rice, two in sorghum and one each in pigeon pea, green gram, soybean and sesame. The State Varietal Release Committee has recently approved all the 11 varieties for release. Now, these varieties will be sent to the Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards for release of varieties notification. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, PJTSAU Vice Chancellor Prof. V Praveen Rao said that after approval of the Central Varietal Release Committee, the seeds would be produced on large scale by various seed producing agencies apart from university and would be made available to all farmers. Already, 11 new varieties have been well received by the farmers in the State, he added. The varsity has developed 47 varieties in different crops since 2014.
