Field day on Rabi Sunflower, a training programme on Summer vegetables and Method demonstration on cotton shredder at Irkode village, Siddipet rural mandal, Siddipet district on 07-03-2019

A field day on rabi sunflower was organized by Agricultural Research Station, Tornala on 07-03-2019 at Irkode village, Siddipet rural mandal, Siddipet district. All the participant farmers and officials were taken to rabi sunflower demonstration laid out in Irkode village under the supervision of scientists of ARS, Tornala, where scientists have explained and demonstrated the advantages associated with pheromone traps and yellow sticky traps in controlling pests. Explained about objectives of the field day on rabi sunflower, a training programme on Summer vegetables and method demonstration on cotton shredder.

Discussed in detail about cultivation aspects of sunflower with main emphasis on seed treatment, weed, irrigation, nutrient management and borax spray. Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Senior Scientist (Agro.) & Head, ARS, Tornala explained and demonstrated mechanical methods of control of monkey/birds/wild boars. Later a training programme on Vegetable cultivation in summer was organized. Explained in detail about scientific cultivation of different vegetables during summer season with main emphasis on Pro-trays, suitable hybrids, IPM and IDM practices to the vegetable growers.

A method demonstration on tractor operated cotton shredder in the cotton field of Mr. Dubbaiah garu, Irkode, was conducted in association with Shaktiman company, in the presence of all participants. This machine helps in shredding the left over cotton stubbles into small pieces and spread in the field.

Informed the group saying that this process helps effective control of residual Pink boll worm and mealy bugs besides enriching the soil fertility through addition of organic matter. Further, he also added that, it helps in avoiding burning of cotton stubbles thus environmental pollution. However, many farmers and officials felt that the machine has to be redesigned in such a way that it covers 3-4 rows at a time instead of single row.
