Agricultural College, Palem Celebrates International Women's Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on 8th March every year, to stress the need of gender parity and to reminisce about the women role models who made a legitimate change in social, economic, political and scientific fields. With a theme of gender equality, the staff and students of Agricultural College, Palem celebrated International Women’s Day on 07.03.2020. The programme began with inviting of the women faculty on to the dais by Miss Nima, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Extension). Later, Mrs. N.Suma Latha, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) detailed the importance of the day and said that womenhood should be honoured and celebrated. Mrs. P. Bindu Priya, Assistant Professor (Genetics and Plant Breeding) advised the girl students to be confident and not lose morale to somebody’s naive comments. She encouraged them to strive hard and reach their goals and support other women in need. Later, Dr. K.Vijayalakshmi, Professor & Head (Entomology), stated that a girl with dreams will become a woman with vision. She underlined the key role played by women in every aspect of life and advised the girls to move ahead towards their goals with confidence. She called out to the girl students to be leaders in their own spheres and not get influenced by the lopsided views of any person. Mr.T.Prem Chandu, a 3rd year student, recited a poem detailing about motherhood and significance of women in every walk of life. A group dance, sensitizing about the crimes taking place against women, was performed by the second year girl students. Finally, the programme came to end with delivery of Vote of Thanks by Dr.P.Jhansi Rani, Assistant Professor (Genetics and Plant Breeding).
