Ravinder Reddy (PS & Head) briefed about the importance of the sparrow day, every year, this day is celebrated all over the world to raise awareness about house sparrows and other common birds affected by the environment. The sparrow, especially the common house sparrow, is one of the most common birds on earth. They developed alongside us throughout time. Sparrows were formerly a common bird all across the world, but in recent years, this bird has been on the edge of extinction across much of its natural range, both in urban and rural areas. Their decline is a sign of the environment around us continuing to deteriorate. Dr. V. Sunitha (Scientist) spoke about the reasons for decline of sparrow population mainly due to the radiation, industrialization, urbanization, indiscriminate use of pesticides to the crop fields and lack of suitable natural habitat. Dr. I. Aruna Sri (Scientist) stressed on various ways and means to protect the sparrows. After that distributed 100 numbers of artificial nest boxes to the staff & students, which act as roosting sites for the sparrows. In this program Naresh, Ramesh, Paramesh, Charan, Ravi and Naveen (Soil biologists of VPM scheme), Krishi high school teaching, non-teaching staff and a total of 102 students were participated.
