Brainstorming session on Mango crop management, Post harvest management, Marketing and Export by KVK, Palem on 29-04-2022

Brainstorming session on Mango crop management, Post harvest management, Marketing and Export was organized by KVK, Palem at Marchala Raithu vedika in collaboration with Dept. of Horticulture, Nagarkurnool district on 29.04.2022 with Mango FPOs, Progressive Farmers, private traders and all stakeholders in the district. In this programme, the progressive farmers have been expressed their unhappy regarding poor yield by this year and specified problems in crop production. They also seeking support in minimum market price and crop damage compensation due to hail storms. They also requested to facilitate good market centre in the district and online market flat form. The farmers also demanded for rapid sanctions of micro irrigation subsidy scheme for mango as limited budget not sufficient to cover the district mango cropped area. Dr. T. Prabhakar reddy, PC, KVK, Palem has analysed based on farmers interaction and field visits that the district has deficit of Zinc and Boran micro nutrients which also causing hidden hunger to achieve target yield and suggested micro nutrient, fertigation and organic matter management in Mango crop. Dr. Adhi Shankar, SMS (Horticulture), KVK, Palem analysed based on farmers interaction and field visits that the Mango growers have not reaping average potential yields due to aged orchards, lack of good horticultural practices, high pest and disease incidence, lack of post harvest knowledge, no pack houses, cold storage facility, ripening chambers, no micro processing industries in this region causing market price drop during peak harvest season. M. Rajashekhar, SMS (Plant protection), KVK, Palem have been identified based on session that yield reduction due to late flowering, black thrips and Mango hoppers attack, Powdery mildew infestation. He also identified that farmers have no knowledge plant protection management chemicals allowed for export oriented crop production. It also found that black thrips, mango hoppers and fruit fly causing economical loss to the farmers. Sri. M. Chandrashekar rao, DHSO, Nagarkurnool have opined that strengthening of Mango FPO will give better results and change in economic status of Mango growers. He also had given details about Govt. subsidy schemes and branding of Kollapur Mango. Mango FPO represents of Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Mahabubnagar, Gadwal and Smt.
