EEI, Hyderabad organized on Campus Training Programme on ‘Recent Trends and Applications in Plant Protection for Sustainability in Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture Sectors 02-06 August 2022

EEI organized on Campus training programme on Recent Trends and Applications in Plant Protection for Sustainability in Agri, Horticulture and Sericulture sectors for the Officers of Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture Sectors, Southern Region (02nd – 06th August, 2022). From increased use of digital technologies, increased biological product understanding, and increased focus on the specialty markets there is a need to understand recent trends in plant protection. At this Juncture, an attempt is made by Extension Education Institute, Hyderabad to organize a 5 days on campus training programme on ‘Recent Trends and Applications in Plant Protection for Sustainability in Agri and Horticulture sectors’. Training programme was framed with contents like Integrated Pest Management and Approaches for Major Crops, Invasive Pests and their Management Approaches, New Novel Molecules and Formulations and their Effective Application in Major Crops, Climate Resilient Pest Management Approaches for Important Pests in Major Crops, Regulatory Requirements for Pesticidal Formulations in the light of Insecticide ACT 1968 and GM Technologies, Safe Handling and Usage of Pesticides in Plant Protection, Compatibility Issues Pertaining to Pesticidal Formulations used in Plant Protection, Visit to Department of Entomology, PJTSAU, Hyderabad., Digital Solutions in Plant Protection, Eco Friendly Pest Management Approaches – Possibilities and Considerations, Visit to NIPHM, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Latest Trends in Pest Management Approaches with Special Reference to Nano Technology and Genetically Modified Crops, Plant Protection Practices in Sericulture, Plant Protection Equipment – Usage and Maintenance, Scope of Drone Technology in Application of Plant Protection Measures in Major Crops. Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Director, EEI chaired the valedictory session and emphasized that every officer attending this training programme should seriously think of the practical application of the learnt knowledge of the training programme at their work place by training the farmers and should report the impact of the training and success stories of the farmers to EEI, Hyderabad. He stressed the need to empower the knowledge of farmers on drones in pesticidal spray, digital applications in accessing the control measures of pests and diseases. Majority of the participants in their feedback impressed with the sessions like Invasive Pest Management practices, Regulatory requirements for pesticidal formulations, Digital solutions in plant protection, Eco friendly pest management practices and scope of drone technology. They also said that visit to the NIPHM was very much beneficial for them to know regarding the current trends in plant health management research. They suggested to include hands on experience in drone application and organic ways of controlling pests in the future training programmes. Eighteen participants from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu attended the training programme which was coordinated by Dr. S. Shireesha, Assistant Professor, EEI, Hyderabad.
