A field day on “Paddy Seed Production” at Potharam village organized by ARS, Tornala on 13-11-2019

A field day on Paddy Seed Production was organized at Potharam village, Husnabad mandal, Siddipet district on 13-11-2019 by Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br.), Ms. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agro.) and Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Sr. Scientist (Agro) & Head, ARS, Tornala. Mr. P. Mahesh, ADA, Husnabad, Mr. M. Nagaraju, MAO, Husnabad, Mr. L. Bhaskar, CEO-FPO’s, host farmer A. Venkatram Reddy and 20 other farmers from the village have participated in the programme. The seed production of RNR-15048 variety of paddy was taken up by ARS, Tornala through outsourcing in the farmer field at Potharam village. At the outset, Dr. E. Umarani, Scientist (Pl. Br.), ARS, Tornala has explained in detail about the paddy seed production aspects viz., importance of source seed, isolation distance, no. of field inspections to be conducted, importance and timing of rouging, precautions to be followed during harvest and post harvest period. Later, Dr. A.V. Ramanjaneyulu, Sr. Scientist (Agro.) & Head, ARS, Tornala explained about importance of green manuring preceding to rice and agronomic operations to be followed in paddy seed production. He also added that seed production is remunerative to the farmers and enhance the farmers income by 1.5-2.0 times. Mr. P. Mahesh, ADA, Husnabad, gave an overview about opportunities available for seed production in Husnabad mandal. Later host farmer Mr. A. Venkatram Reddy has shared his experience with the fellow farmers about the paddy seed production. Participant farmers expressed that they are ready to take up seed production on a large scale from ensuring kharif season onwards.
