KVK, Palem in collaboration with AINP on Pesticide Residues Laboratory, PJTSAU organized an awareness programme on ‘Safe handling of pesticides & Usage of Protective clothing’ under SC-SP on 29.03.2023 at KVK, Palem adopted village, Vasanthapur. The programme was chaired by Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem highlighted the precautionary measures to be taken while spraying plant protection chemicals. Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, PC, KVK, Palem briefed the importance of Personal protective equipment (PPE) kits. Dr. G. Sridevi, PS & Head elaborated the effects of excessive and indiscriminate spraying of pesticides and their effect on environment and ways and means to overcome these effects Dr. N. Jemimah, Scientist Entomology has created awareness among farmers about usage of protective clothing like caps, masks, gloves, shoes while spraying by live demostration and washing them immediately after spraying and explained the Do’s & Don’t’s for safe use of pesticides. Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (PP) explained the ways and means of usage of harmful pesticides and stressed upon need based and ETL based spraying of plant protection chemicals. Dr. B. Rajashekar interacted with the farmers regarding the current problems facing by them. As a part of this programme, Personal protective equipment (PPE) kits were distributed to the 80 SC farmers by AINP on Pesticide Residues Laboratory, PJTSAU. Sri. Kishore, AEO, Sri. C. Buchaiah, Sarpoanch and 105 farmers have participated in this programme.
