College of Agriculture, NSS unit, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad started organizing different cleaning activities as a part of “Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign” on 16.09.2023. Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign is being celebrated from 15th September to 2nd October this year under the joint aegis of DDWS & MoHUA for undertaking shramdaan activities aiming to generate jan andolan through community participation; to provide impetus on implementation of SBM; to disseminate the importance of a sampoorna swachh village; to reinforce the concept of Sanitation as everyone’s business; and as a prelude for the Swachh Bharat Diwas (2nd October) with nationwide participation. Theme of SHS-2023 is 'Garbage Free India' with focus on visual cleanliness and welfare of Safai Mitras. Like earlier years the spirit of cleanliness activities is voluntarism/ shramdaan. The focus of these swachhata drives would be on high footfall public places like bus stands, railway stations, cantonment boards, beaches, tourist places, zoos, national parks & sanctuaries, historical monuments, heritage sites, river fronts, Ghats, drains and nallahs etc. in both rural & urban areas of State/ UT. NSS P.O’s,Teaching, non-teaching staff and students along with Associate Dean, gathered at College portico and took a Swachhata pledge to strive for a clean India. This marked the formal launch of Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign. Associate Dean addressed the students as well as staff regarding importance of making Clean India and Removal of garbage from all important places. Later Students started clean up waste accumulation on the roadside and corners of parking area, garden area and backyard of Dept. of Agronomy. With the excitement and enthusiasm in abundance, it was in no time that, the area transformed into a much cleaner and shining place where students hang out in the evenings. This programme was graced by Dr. C. Narendra Reddy, Associate Dean, NSS P.O’s. Associate Dean addressed the students as well as staff regarding importance of making Clean India and also created awareness on effects of single-use plastic and urged to come forward with alternatives of SUP to usage of biodegradable material, and also ways of improving plastic waste management. NSS volunteers collected the plastic waste around the college, premises of bus shelter. A group of NSS volunteers has been involved in removing waste plastic material around star garden.
