Nutrithali: Good Supplements to Tribal Diets at KVK, Wyra on 18-09-2020

All forms of malnutrition collectively are responsible for more ill health than any other cause. Under nutrition caused 45.0% of deaths among children below five years mainly in low and middle-income countries. The health consequences of overweight and obesity contributed to an estimated 4.0 million deaths (7.1% of all deaths) and 120 million healthy years of life lost as disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) globally (4.9% of all DALYs among adults). The poor diets are the second-leading risk factor for deaths and DALYs globally contributing to 18.8% of deaths among which 50.0% due to cardiovascular diseases. To overcome the micronutrient malnutrition in India, Poshan Maah was initiated. In continuation with Poshan Maah – September 2020 being celebrated with the theme “Complimentary Feeding”, KVK, Wyra conducted on 18.09.2020, awareness programme about “Nutrigarden and nutrithalli” at KVK, Wyra. Farmers and farm women participated in this programme from tribal village of Nemalipuri and Moolapocharam. Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar, Dr. Jessie Suneetha W, Dr. V. Chaitanya and Mrs. P.M.S. Phanisri participated in this programme. Dr. J. Hemantha Kumar spoke about the ill effects of pesticides on human health and need for nutri garden. Dr. Jessie Suneetha W explained about the importance of balanced diet through Nutri thali for healthy living during COVID. Dr. V. Chaitanya explained about types of fruit and vegetable crops that can be grown under kitchen garden during yasangi. Mrs. P. M. S. Phanisri spoke on seed availability and market price of food crops. The farmers and farm women were taken around and shown demo units of various crops at KVK, Wyra.
