One-day Seminar on ‘Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Water Management’ at WTC, PJTSAU on 26-11-2019

A one-day Seminar on “Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Water Management” was conducted on 26-11-2019,at WTC Auditorium, Water Technology Centre, PJTSAU, Rajendranagar as a part of first anniversary celebrations of establishment of Remote Sensing and GIS laboratory. About 103 members from different research stations and colleges of PJTSAU across the Telangana state (67 Teaching Staff + 36 students) who have successfully completed the on line interactive mode, IIRS outreach programme which was co-ordinated by WTC, Hyderabad on ‘Basics of Remote Sensing, GIS and GNSS’ from 19th August to 22nd Nov, 2019 have attended this one day seminar. Invited dignitaries for the programme were Dr. R. Jagdeeshwar, Director of Research; Dr. K. Meena Kumari, Dean of PG Studies; Dr. D.Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Director of Extension; Dr. K. The programme was started with inauguration session and Dr. M. Uma Devi has presented the key note address of the brief works carried out in the Remote Sensing and GIS lab past one year. Participants of IIRS out reaching programme have given their feedback and expressed their happiness in undergoing the training programme for 84 days. The Director of Research in his speech mentioned that the RS and GIS lab was established with investment of about one Crore. As the Telangana Govt. is providing irrigation facility to the farming community by investing in lift irrigation projects and rejuvenation of small and marginal water tanks etc, identification of suitable crops/cropping patterns, generation of soil fertility maps etc. using the latest tools like RS and GIS is the need of the hour. He also suggested the staff members to come up with suitable project proposals using RS and GIS tools to meet the needs of the state for natural resources management. He expected the laboratory to build up the capacity of staff and students in this line.
