Training and Capacity Building on Millet Processing and Value Addition, at Milet Processing and Incubation Centre, PGRC

Three training programmes each with 3 days duration were conducted on millet processing and value addition to the SC and ST population under the subcomponent II - Nutritional security & enhanced economic activities of the SLSC - RKVY –Project-Resource characterization and Entrepreneurship development for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities in backward districts of Telangana. Thirty-six master trainers were selected from among the beneficiaries of Adilabad, Mahaboobnagar and Kothagudem and trained in millet processing and value addition in three different batches during 6th – 23rd January 2021. The training was provided at millet processing and incubation centre on the various aspects starting from cleaning, grading, dehulling, pulverizing techniques to packaging and nutritional labelling. The skill was provided on the production of dehulled grain, flour, different sizes grits (small, medium and big) and pressed flakes. Nutritional and health benefits of millets, machine operation, food safety, packaging and nutritional labelling aspects were also covered during the training. These master trainers would further train an additional 108 beneficiaries of the project once the millet processing unit is established in three districts. These training programmes were organized by Dr. T.V. Hymavathi, PI and Professor and University Head and Co-PIs Dr.Anila Kumari and Mrs.E Jyosthna of the nodal centre of the project. Co-PIs, Dr. Afifa Jahan, Mr. Poshadri and Dr. J. Lakshmi Narayanamma of Network centres supported the programme by selecting and coordinating the beneficiaries.
