ONE DAY WORK SHOP ON “MANGO POST-HARVEST MANAGEMENT, MARKETING AND EXPORT AT RARS, POLASA, JAGTIAL ON 02.05.2022

  • On this occasion, Dr.M. Sanjay Kumar, MLA, Jagtial, Chief Guest of the programme, addressed the farmers about the “Importance of mango, dragon fruit and vegetable crops cultivation to increase the income levels”. He also urged the farmers to cultivate remunerative crops for enhancing the socio-economic conditions.
  • Smt. Dava Vasantha, ZP Chair person, Jagtial, guest of honour told that “Cultivation of horticultural crops as the need of hour to get better returns for the crops”. she also urged the farmers to take need-based suggestions from scientists for management of pests and diseases.
  • Dr. M. Uma Devi, ADR explained about survey results of “Value chain studies in mango in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh”. She also emphasized the major problems faced by the farmers in mango cultivation were getting subsidy for fencing and drip irrigation, lack of awareness about crop insurance and non-availability of ripening chambers.
  • The agricultural information material entitled “Mamidi kota Anantara yajamanyam” prepared by RARS, Polasa, Jagtial was released by Hon. MLA and distributed to the officials.
  • Dr. P. Harikanth, Scientist (Hort.), FRS, Sangareddy created awareness on “Package of Practices of Mango along with Integrated Management Practices, Canopy management and post-harvest handling and Export of Mango”. He stressed that high density planting in old orchards canopy management needs to be done for quality fruits.
  • Dr. B. Madhavi, Scientist (Soil Science), FRS, Sangareddy explained about “Fertilizer schedule and importance of micronutrients in Mango besides the importance of organic and green manures in Mango orchards”.
  • Ms. K. Mounika, Scientist (Pl.Path), FRS, Sangareddy briefed about the “Pest and Disease management practices in Mango”. She mainly explained the chemical control measures for die back (Bordeaux paste), mango hopper (Imidachloprid), thrips (fipronil), stem borer & fruit borer (Chloropyriphos), mealy bugs (Imidachloprid) and fruit fly (use of pheromone traps).
  • Mr. P. Manohar Reddy, DDM, Karimnagar Cluster, NABARD explained about “NABARD and its role in promoting Horticulture sector vis -a-vis Mango”
  • Mr. P. Venkat Reddy, Lead District Manager, Jagtial briefed about the “Institutional lending to Mango orchard development”.
  • Mr. Ratnakar, Project Manager, Jaikisan seva spoorthi foundation shown the “Demonstration of Enripe product for ripening of Mangoes” and distributed enripe product for 30 farmers.
  • Mr. Dharma Rao, APEDA enlightened about the “Quality standards in Mango for domestic and export purpose”. He stressed the importance of FPOs in exporting of mangoes and also explained about quality specifications of mangoes for export.
  • Sri. J. Suresh, DAO, Jagtial district created awareness about different “Government subsidy schemes to farmers and FPOs”.
  • In the programme, farmers expressed the problems faced in mango cultivation such as poor yields due to flowering in four phases, lack of remunerative market price and damage compensation due to hail storms. They also stressed the economic damage caused by fruit flies in the area. Sri. J. Pratap Singh, DHSO, Jagtial have opined that strengthening of Mango FPOs will increase the income levels of farmers. Later the programme ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. D. A. Rajini Devi, Scientist (Ag. Economics).

Deva Prasad, H. O., V. Govardhan, H. O., B. Manjuvani, H. O., M. Sravanthi, H. O., M. Spandana, H. O., Damodar Rao, AMC chairmen, PACS officials, scientists of RARS and farmers (161 No.) and FPOs were also participated.
