Post Graduate Programme

The University offers PG & Ph.D degree programmes in Agriculture, Home Science & Agriculture Engineering. It offers M.Sc (Ag) degree programme in 12 disciplines and Ph.D degree programme in 10 disciplines. In the Faculty of Home Science,the university offers PG and Ph.D degree programmes in 5 disciplines. In the Faculty of Agriculture, Engineering, the University offers M.Tech degree programme in one discipline.

The duration of Masters degree programme is of two years and the student has to complete 35+2 credits of course work and 20 credits of research work. For students obtaining MBA(ABM) degree programme shall complete 70+2 credits of course work and 10 credits of research work. For Ph.D degree programme the credit requirement is 30+2 credits of course work and 45 credits of research work. The total number of seats for admissions are decided by the Academic Council from time to time.

The admission process in the university is based on the entrance examination conducted by the ICAR New Delhi and their performance at the qualifying examination. In addition the university admits 25 per cent of students (Super numery) under ICAR quota and allotted by ICAR. A number of students from the foreign countries (Ethiopia, Ghana, Afghanistan, Srilanka, Lesotho and Buttan etc.,) are admitted based on their nomination by Government of India. The In-service candidates pursuing their degree programme are also admitted from various State Governments/Other organizations.

The university has introduced the procedure for online application for admission into PG programmes. The student evaluation is a continuous process where in the student is evaluated for their performance in various examinations conducted for the purpose.

The semester final examination is in compulsory courses is conducted by obtaining the question papers from outside the State and the student has to secure a minimum 50 per cent to pass the examination. The comprehensive examination system is conducted by obtaining the question papers from outside the State and evaluated by the same examiner. The student has to pass the written examination to be eligible to appear for Viva-Voce. The written examination and Viva-voce are given one credit weightage and evaluated and a 10 point scale. The university has developed the software (TARPC) for student Academic Performance Repository for the PG programmes.

The research topics for thesis work are selected essentially based on research gaps identified in the mandate crops through SLTP and feedback obtaining from farming community. In addition the university encourages basic research with lot of practical implications. The thesis work is monitored every month by the students advisory committee established for the purpose. The students shall have to submit atleast two research papers (for Ph.D degree) and one paper (for PG degree) before submission of thesis. The university encourages multidisciplinary research and research in PPP mode (Public Private Partnership) and the students are allotted to reputed research institutions for their research work.

The university strives hard for improving quality of PG education and constantly follow the course curriculum suggested by ICAR from time to time. The university has state of art laboratories well maintained Central Instrumentation cell computerized labs, virtual class rooms, Seminal halls, excellent library facilities, digital library with internet facilities.

Curriculum

Falling in line with the policies of the University and ICAR, the curricula and syllabi are revised periodically. Revision of syllabus and introduction of new courses are done based on the emerging needs.
